Year 8 Confirmation Resources

Teaching the Sacrament of Confirmation

It is expected that numbers of candidates will be low for the current academic year. This is because a significant number of Year 8 pupils have already been confirmed.
Sacramental preparation within the Archdiocese is a shared task between home, school and parish. Within the pastoral areas teams of catechists will explore ways in which the Sacrament is lived out in our communities. Our schools will contribute by unfolding knowledge and understanding of the Sacrament. Clearly, there will be some overlap with catechesis as teachers too, cover aspects of the effects of living the Sacrament.
Its teaching will take place in Year 8 near to, or during, Lent. The materials fit appropriately within:
People of God – Called to Serve,
Spring Term,
How do we live as People of God?
The aim is to teach Confirmation as the Celebration of Gift; identifying the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, lived within everyday life; at all times drawing upon the experiences of the candidates and including the whole learning community.
Content includes:
Apostles’ Creed and Promises
Liturgy of Confirmation
Signs and symbols
Sacraments as currency for daily life

The range of resources have been prepared to cover the content and more. Please use, adapt, differentiate and generally make them your own, for your pupils. Clearly, over time the resources will be further developed. They are neither exhaustive nor prescriptive. The same applies to the amount of lesson time that you allocate.
These resources have been created by national and local members of the working group responsible for resourcing People of God – Called to Serve. These same resources will also be included within that framework.
