LOURDES – MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER

• FRIDAY 22 JULY
Let us pray for those travelling today to Lourdes. (Pause)
May they arrive safely and present our petitions to Mary, the Lady of Lourdes and Queen of Mercy. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord help us to be united in prayer with our pilgrims who this day are travelling to Lourdes in answer to Mary's call to Bernadette. We pray that during these special days all of us may be drawn closer to you, through the prayers of your Blessed Mother.

• SATURDAY 23 JULY
Let us pray for our own special intentions. (Pause)
May the Lord grant our requests. (Pause)
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Our Lady of Lourdes, you chose as your helper a child ignorant in the ways of the world, yet despite all the favours which you heaped upon Bernadette, she remained humble and innocent, because you promised her happiness not in this world but in the next. Obtain for us the grace to be humble in heart and pure in mind, in order that we, in our turn, may obtain your favours.

• SUNDAY 24 JULY
Let us pray for an awareness of vocations in people. (Pause)
May they respond with generosity to the Lord's call in their lives. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
God our Father, help all people to find their true vocation in life and so find happiness.
May those who answer the call to the priesthood and the religious life, generously follow in the footsteps of St Bernadette and give glory to your love in their lives.

• MONDAY 25 JULY
Let us pray for peace and reconciliation in our world. (Pause) May people work together to make peace and reconciliation a reality in our world. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
God our Father, you reveal that those who work for peace will be called your sons and daughters. Help us to work without ceasing for that reconciliation which brings true and lasting peace to people.

• TUESDAY 26 JULY
Let us pray for young people of our Archdiocese. (Pause)
May the Lord fill them with a spirit of mercy in the world. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
God our Father, you send the power of the Gospel of mercy into the world.
Fill with the Spirit of Christ our young people who live in the world and its concerns; help them by their work on earth to build up your eternal kingdom.

• WEDNESDAY 27 JULY
Let us pray for people to take to heart the final words of the Lord Jesus. (Pause)
May they go into the world and proclaim the Good News to the whole of creation. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
God our Father, you will all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of your truth. Send us into the world to proclaim the Good News to the whole of creation. May your people be gathered together by the word of life and strengthened by the power of the sacraments.

• THURSDAY 28 JULY
Let us pray for the Assisted Pilgrims on pilgrimage in Lourdes, and all the sick of our Archdiocese. (Pause)
May the Lord's healing mercy touch and support them. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
All-powerful Father, God of mercy, look kindly on us in our suffering.
Ease our burden and make our faith strong that we may always have confidence and trust in your Fatherly care and mercy.

• FRIDAY 29 JULY
Let us pray for the Archdiocesan pilgrimage starting their journey home today. (Pause)
May they, with God's guidance and protection, arrive home safely. (Pause)
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, we have spent these days in union with our pilgrims and with one another. At Mary's request we have all come to pray and to do penance for our sins.
Grant our prayers, Lord, which we make to you through your Mother Mary: that the Church may grow in love of you, especially the Church in our country; that more young people will choose to follow you through a life of service in your Church; that people will find employment; that the sick and the disabled may find health and contentment in your abiding presence and through our concern; that all people may learn to love one another; that our families will always reflect the loving harmony of Jesus; that our Archdiocese may follow you more closely, you who are the Merciful face of the Father. Amen.
