Organist

Salary £12,000 per annum
Hours of work will be 27 per week for 40 weeks per year
and flexible hours for 12 weeks per year
Pension and salary exchange schemes available

This iconic and inspiring Cathedral Church has a tradition of innovative liturgy and music. The Cathedral is looking to make a permanent appointment to the post of Organist.
 
Reporting to the Director of Music the successful candidate should not only have the necessary musical skills, qualifications and experience as outlined in the person specification, but should have a full and sympathetic understanding of the meaning and principles of the Catholic liturgy.
 
Applications are invited from candidates with substantial experience and knowledge of the Catholic liturgy within the context of an appropriate place of worship.
 
The successful candidate must have:
• Experience as a cathedral musician, or equivalent
• Experience as a choral/liturgical accompanist with a wide range of experience
• Extensive knowledge of organ repertory
• Knowledge of the principles of the Roman Catholic liturgy as revised by the Second Vatican Council
• Flexibility and ability to understand the need to work outside regular hours when the occasion arises
• Extensive knowledge of sacred choral music and skills as a choral conductor
• The ability to train and inspire young people to high musical standards
 
Additionally the following would be advantageous:
• Working knowledge of Gregorian chant
• Experience of making commercial organ CD’s/DVD’s
• Experience of broadcasting on BBC national Radio/TV
