'Holy Land is a fascinating place'

Reflections from a Liverpool pilgrim in Holy Land

Another exciting and thrilling day ahead of us.  First stop was Abu Ghosh, one of the possible sites of Emmaus where Jesus appeared to two of his disciples on that first Easter Sunday.  An amazing Crusader Church greeted us which was set in beautiful grounds. Just listening to the Gospel account made me feel very emotional and knowing the countless millions of people who have walked and sat in the same church.  Then a stop at Ein Karem the birth place of John the Baptist

A visit to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial Site was very moving. Hearing the stories of those who survived this awful tragedy and seeing confiscated personal items brought tears to my eyes.  The various memorials especially to the many children who died brought home to the Group how evil humans can be.

After another excellent lunch we drove through the Judnainean Desert to the lowest city on the earth, Jericho.  The scenery was stunning as we drove through the desert passing Bedouin Camps, Camels, Cattle and donkeys.  A cable car ride to the Mountain of Temptation, the traditional place where Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights before being tempted by satan.  Father Mark pointed out to those of us in his car the various places that we could see for miles.  This truly is a fascinating place.

This is my first visit to the Holy Land; a dream come true.  A place I've only dreamt about, but now I'm living that dream!
