'It’s you, it’s me, it’s us that makes community!' This is a line from the college song at Notre Dame Catholic College in Everton, Liverpool.
They are also words that ring true of the Advent Action programme at nearby Saint Francis Xavier’s Church in Salisbury Street, Liverpool. Advent Action worked in a fruitful partnership with Notre Dame College chaplain, Rebecca Wall, to help pupils recognise the great efforts of local agencies, schools, community centres and churches, especially during the pandemic – while also making their own valuable contribution.
As part of the programme, College students produced personalised Christmas cards thanking people for their service and ministry; this was also an opportunity for the College to underline its commitment to responsible recycling. SFX Church pastoral assistant, Debbie Reynolds, then had the pleasure of picking up the cards and delivering them to hardworking volunteers at the church.
Moreover, both the College and SFX Church collected for local foodbanks in addition to donating children’s gifts sets for those in particular need this Christmas.
