Please note that this timetable is subject to last-minute changes due to Covid-19 restrictions, in accordance with instructions from the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.
 
Due to the current restrictions in place, we hope you understand that once the current capacity of the Cathedral is met the doors will be closed.
 
 
Palm Sunday Mass
Sunday 28th March, 11am
This Mass will include a sung reading of the Passion Gospel and palms will be blessed.
 
Due to social-distancing measures, there will be a limited capacity at this Service and we expect there to be a high demand. If you are shielding or unable to travel, the 11am Palm Sunday Mass will be livestreamed to our Facebook and Youtube Channels.
 
 
Mass of Chrism (ticketed service)
Wednesday 31st March, 6pm
Archdiocesan clergy will gather together to renew their commitment to Priestly Service. Holy Oils used in the celebration of the Sacraments throughout the coming year will blessed.
 
Due to social-distancing measures, there will be a limited capacity at this service and a ticket will be required. Please register by emailing c.hanlon@metcathedral.org.uk

Mass of the Lord’s Supper
Maundy Thursday, 1st April, 7.30pm
This intimate Service to commemorate the Lord’s Supper will conclude with a short period of Watching concluding with Night Prayer at 9.30pm.
 
Due to social distancing measures, there will be a limited capacity at this service and we expect there to be a high demand. If you are shielding or unable to travel, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be livestreamed to our Facebook and Youtube Channels.

Stations of the Cross, 11.30am
 
Celebration of the Lord’s Passion
Good Friday, 2nd April, 3pm and 5pm
With Sung Passion followed by Communion and the Veneration of the Cross
Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP is the celebrant at the 3pm Service, and Bishop Tom Williams is celebrant at the 5pm Service.

Easter Vigil and First Mass of Easter
Holy Saturday, 3rd April, 8pm
We mark the beginning of Easter with one of the most symbolic Services of the Cathedral's liturgical year. This Service will begin with the singing of the Exultet and the lighting of the Easter Candle.
 
Due to social-distancing measures, there will be a limited capacity at this Service and we expect there to be a high demand. If you are shielding or unable to travel, the Easter Vigil and First Mass of Easter will be livestreamed to our Facebook and Youtube Channels.
 
 
Easter Day Solemn Mass
Easter Sunday, 4th April, 9am, 10am, 11am
Join us for one of the most important Masses of the liturgical year as we come together to celebrate Christ's Resurrection.

Tenebrae – Sunday 28th March, 7pm
The ancient office of Tenebrae (Latin for ‘darkness’) will be sung by members of the Cathedral Choir by candlelight. The service will conclude with Allegri’s famous ‘Miserere Mei’ and its spine tingling top Cs.

Holy Thursday Office of Readings – Thursday 1st April, 10am
The office of readings for Holy Thursday features psalms, readings and responsories set to music by Spanish renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Victoria.

Good Friday Office of Readings – Friday 2nd April, 10am
As the Cathedral lies empty on Good Friday, join us online to hear readings and enter into choral music by Victoria and Anerio led by members of the Cathedral Choir.

Holy Saturday Office of Readings – Saturday 3rd April, 10am
On the final day of the Triduum our Youth Choir will sing psalms, readings and hymns as we prepare to celebrate the Resurrection.

Easter Sunday Choral Evening Prayer – Sunday 4th April, 7pm
The final Service of Holy Week, where members of the Cathedral Choir lead us in singing the Easter praises and thanksgiving.
