Obituary of Rev Paul Fegan

1268103876_FrPaulFegan.jpg A much loved former Vocations Director and Parish Priest of the Archdiocese, Father Paul Fegan, died on Saturday 4 September aged 51.

Paul was born in Liverpool on 30 May 1959, the son of John and Irene. His attended Holy Rosary Junior School in Aintree Village, and studied for the priesthood at St Joseph’s College, Upholland, Ushaw College and Durham University. He was ordained on 12 November 1983 at Holy Rosary church.

In December 1983 he was appointed to Our Lady of Compassion, Formby. In January 1985 he moved to St Paul’s, West Derby. In 1987 he was appointed Vocations Director for the Archdiocese and moved to St Mary’s, Lowe House, St Helens. He remained in that post until May 1994 when he was appointed Parish Priest of St Benet’s, Netherton.

In June 2001 illness forced him to take sabbatical leave. Over the following nine years he continued to serve doing supply work when his health would allow and was faithfully supported by many friends.

Archbishop Patrick Kelly celebrated the Vigil Mass at Holy Rosary on Sunday 12 September and Bishop Vincent Malone the Funeral Mass there on Monday 13 September.
