Cathedral set for music marathon

Visitors to the Metropolitan Cathedral this Saturday, 25 April, should prepare for a feast for the ears – in the form of 12 hours of non-stop music.

The Cathedral’s musicians have planned a special ‘musicathon’ with the choir singing, the organ playing and choristers performing solo instrumental pieces. Visitors will even be able to request their own favourite song or piece of music – just tell the musicians what you would like to hear, make a pledge and they will do their best to perform it for you.

The purpose of the day is two-fold – to raise the profile of music in the Cathedral, by inviting visitors to hear beautiful music in a stunning architectural space, while also raising money for future Cathedral choir tours.

The choir regularly tours overseas, acting as ambassadors for the Cathedral and the city of Liverpool. Most recently, in 2014, they had the privilege of singing for the Pope in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
