'Encounter' at Lowe House on Pentecost Monday

Retreat day with youth appeal

Pentecost Monday is the appropriate occasion for a retreat day at St Mary's, Lowe House which has been inspired by Pope Francis's call to share the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit.

'Encounter' will offer people of all ages the chance to come and experience the power of the Holy Spirit. Participants will be able to meet other Catholics and go deeper into their faith during a programme of activities that will include Mass, Adoration, praise and worship, baptism in the Spirit, and a question time.

The object of the event is to draw attention to Pope Francis's words addressed to delegates at a recent charismatic conference in Rome – "I expect you to share with everyone in the Church the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit" – and to ensure that every endeavour is made to meet the Pope's exhortation.

The event, which will have a special emphasis on youth involvement, is being led by the organisers of the annual New Dawn summer conference in Walsingham. Myles Dempsey will give the opening address, with further talks from keynote speakers Gary Stevens and John Hesketh. Midday Mass will be celebrated by Fr Matt Anscombe, with a period of Adoration following later in the day.

The retreat runs from 9.30am to 5pm on Monday 25 May at St Mary's, Lowe House, 99 Crab Street, St Helens, WA10 2BE. Admission is free, with tea and coffee provided. For more information, call Prince of Peace Community on 0151 228 0724.
