Archbishop Malcolm McMahon ordained Father Matthew Jolley to the priesthood on Saturday 4 July at St Mary’s church, Warrington.
Priests from throughout the Archdiocese of Liverpool and beyond joined the congregation for the celebration as Father Matthew began his priestly ministry.
Speaking of his experience of vocation Father Matthew said, "It is like being prodded with a stick and you cannot ignore it. If God wants you he will get you."
He continued, "Six years' study may seem like a long time, but the events of this weekend make it all so worthwhile. My thanks go to everyone for their prayers, encouragement and support through my journey to priesthood. Special thanks to Monsignor John Devine and the people of St Mary's parish who have worked so hard in many different ways to prepare for this great occasion. God bless you all."
In September Father Matthew will take up his first appointment as assistant priest in the parish of Holy Name, Fazakerley, Liverpool.
