Moses Mui, Training Coordinator, Pastoral Development Team

Moses Mui has been with the archdiocese for 10 months and works as the Training Coordinator in the Pastoral Development Department.

Moses plays a vital role in supporting parishes and deaneries in all aspects of catechesis and adult formation. He delivers a wide range of training events at different levels and is responsible for organising many of the formation programmes that take place. Most recently, he completed a three-month general catechist course made up of 14 sessions.

Another key part of his work involves providing catechists with the resources they need. In the case of the marriage preparation course, this goes beyond training those who deliver it. Moses helps to develop a clear plan, adapts existing material to suit the local context, and works behind the scenes to make sure catechists feel confident using the resources. The team coordinates the course from start to finish, handling registration, technical support, presentation slides, and making sure the venue is ready.

What Moses finds most rewarding is seeing catechists grow in confidence and take ownership of what they are doing. “It is satisfying to help them to be able to do it independently,” he says. The marriage preparation team includes seven presenters, and Moses works with them much like a teacher, observing their sessions, prompting deeper discussion, and encouraging them to ask more questions. “They have received good feedback from the couples – it is a joy for them.”

People might be surprised to learn that Moses’s role goes beyond delivering training. He also spends time researching ideas, exploring effective practices, and gathering helpful materials that could support catechists in their work. Meeting others, learning from their experiences, and reflecting on whether their methods or ways of working could be adapted for the archdiocese is a part of the job he finds particularly interesting. “We need to see if their way of working is effective, but also whether it suits our situation or programme,” he explains. “It is about finding what fits and making it our own.”
