Archdiocesan Parish Centre Management Ltd (APCMC) have recently recruited two new lay board members.

It is the first time in the history of APCMC that there will be lay people on the board, having only consisted of clergy members before.

Maureen Gledhill and Neil Bascombe were selected as APCMC’s newest members of the board, contributing to the future of our 33 parish centres.

Maureen brings a wealth of experience to the table, having worked in the hospitality sector for 40 years, before retiring.

She said: “I’ve got 40 years hospitality experience – myself and my husband bought commercial properties and turned them into bars and restaurants.

“We managed everything, from the planning, design and health and safety.”

As well as her professional experience, Maureen is also very involved in her local parish. She is part of the Baptism preparation team and is also a Eucharistic Minister.

When asked about what she wants to get out of the role, she added: “I’m looking forward to providing a valuable contribution to the board.

“I’ve attended my first meeting, and I didn’t feel like a new person- everyone was incredibly welcoming; I want to use my 40 years’ experience to help; it’s a difficult time as the parish centres need to marry the pastoral activities with gaining a profit.”

Meanwhile, Neil comes from a background of working in local government, community engagement and partnership and education support.

On his new role, he said: “I’ve always appreciated the role parish centres play in everyday community life.

“When I saw the opportunity for lay involvement, it felt like a good moment to offer some of my experience in a way that supports the wider work of the archdiocese.”

“I’m looking forward to learning more about APCMC and meeting fellow board members and understanding where I can contribute in a supportive way.

“I’m keen to listen, learn and play a small part in helping parish centres continue to thrive.”

Fr Graeme Dunne, Episcopal Vicar for Finance and Chair of APCMC Ltd, added: “As chair of APCMC, I am delighted to welcome Maureen and Neil to the board.

“‘They bring a wide experience and knowledge and will be a great addition to the committee.

“We look forward to working together to help shape the future of our parish centres.”
