Parishes across the Archdiocese of Liverpool are invited to support CAFOD’s Lent Family Fast Day on Friday 27 February, traditionally observed on the second Friday of Lent.
This year, CAFOD is highlighting how donations are helping communities in South Sudan, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe who are striving to grow food and care for their families despite increasingly severe droughts and floods.
Through the generosity of parishioners, CAFOD accompanies communities facing the harsh realities of climate change, supporting practical solutions such as access to clean water, sustainable food production, renewable energy and safeguarding initiatives that protect women and children.
Bishop Stephen Wright of Hexham and Newcastle, who visited CAFOD projects in Zimbabwe last October, reflected on what he witnessed:
“I was privileged to visit the Rushinga district in Zimbabwe… I was struck by the poverty and vulnerability of the people but also by their joy and most generous welcome. The dignity and friendliness of the people will stay with me forever.
“I saw how money donated to CAFOD changes lives… With water, electricity and a good meal a day, communities and families are changed. They are given the little help they need to move out of the poverty they suffer.
“Thank you for helping them.”
Parishes are encouraged to promote the appeal locally and to share CAFOD’s Lent Appeal video:
Catholics across the archdiocese are also invited to take part in The Big Lent Walk, challenging themselves to walk 200km over the 40 days of Lent while raising sponsorship to support communities worldwide.
