Day five in Lourdes - a day to pause and pray
minute read
July 29, 2025

At the start of a new week in Lourdes, Monday began with Mass at St Bernadette’s Church.

In the afternoon, there was rosary at the Grotto. In a special nod to the miracle that happened during the archdiocesan pilgrimage 102 years ago, Archbishop John Sherrington led the rosary using Jack Traynor’s rosary beads.

Following this, pilgrims had chance to light candles and take a quiet moment to pause and pray.

Pilgrims then passed through the heart of the sanctuary, the Grotto, where Our Lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The Grotto is a unique place of prayer, hope, peace and unity.

For the pilgrims in the St Frai hospital, their day concluded with entertainment from Coach 9. The youth coach from St Helens and Isle of Man led singing and dancing for the assisted pilgrims and brought so much joy to everyone.
