The first half term of the academic year has come to a close, here is a roundup of the achievements and celebrations from our schools across the archdiocese.
Long serving governor retires
St Mary’s Catholic Infant and Junior Academy, Newton-le-Willows, wished school governor Mrs White a happy retirement, ending a 50-year association with the school, first as a pupil, and then later as a governor.
We wish her all the best in retirement!
St Elizabeth’s donate to food bank
St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School in Litherland have donated harvest goods to South Sefton Foodbank. The school’s Prayer Council helped to sort the food and then loaded the van.
Our Lady of Perpetual Succour receives Live Simply Award
Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Primary School in Widnes became the latest school to receive the LiveSimply award from CAFOD.
The LiveSimply team received a certificate from Labour MP for Widnes and Halewood Derek Twigg
Wigan school cheers on Ashes squad
School leaders at St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School in Wigan went to Wigan Warriors training facility at Robin Park and had the opportunity to meet some of the players representing England in the rugby league Ashes series against Australia. They also got a tour of the facilities.
St Oswalds welcomes Dcn Justin
St Oswalds Catholic Primary School in Wigan welcomed Deacon Justin Malaewezi, who shared two new stories he has written and also explained how the school’s fundraising efforts has helped those in Malawi.
St Mary’s mark Jubilee Year
St Mary’s Catholic High School, Leyland held a special Mass to commemorate the Jubilee Year. The Mass was celebrated by Fr Joe Bibby, and there was also help from feeder schools St Anne’s, Leyland, St Catherine’s, Farington, St Mary’s, Euxton and SS Peter and Paul, Mawdsley.
St William's raise money for The Brick
St William’s Catholic Primary School in Wigan held their harvest appeal and donated to The Brick, a charity that helps those in poverty.
Carmel College enters the world of politics
Three students from Carmel College attended the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool earlier in October. Two of them even appeared on the BBC!
Congratulations, Miss Davies!
A teacher in St Aidan’s Primary School, Wigan, Miss Davies also plays rugby league for Wigan Warriors. She recently helped the Warriors beat St Helens in a second major final of the year to complete the treble for Wigan.
St Robert Bellarmine raise money for CAFOD
Well done to Year 6 students at St Robert Bellarmine Primary School Bootle, who raised £50 and purchased four reading classes as part of CAFOD’s World Gifts. They did a sponsored walk at Moel Famau in Wales.
St Teresa’s mark anniversary
St Teresa of Lisieux Primary school in Norris Green celebrated the ruby jubilee of Fr Tony Slingo’s priesthood by presenting him with various gifts, including a tree of hope and rainbows.
Coffee morning success
Holy Family Catholic High School in Thornton raised £177 for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to a recent coffee morning.
St Mary’s Primary in Euxton also raised £233.70 with their coffee morning!
New prayer room at St Gerard’s
St Gerards Catholic Primary School in Widnes welcomed Archbishop John Sherrington to bless their new prayer room
Education Secretary visits All Saints
The current Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson visited All Saints Catholic Primary school, Golborne, to see how they are delivering an inclusive education. Well done all!
News from the archdiocese
Headteachers in Rome
Our Headteachers, as well as members in the Education Department have spent time in Rome, and listened to a speech from Pope Leo XIV, as well as an audience with Archbishop Paul Gallagher in the Apostolic Palace!
