As part of the celebrations marking the Jubilee Year, the Jubilee Icon has been touring dioceses across the UK, inspiring communities with its message of hope and renewal.
We’re delighted that at the end of October; the icon will be arriving in the Archdiocese of Liverpool. This is a special opportunity to encounter the icon in person and reflect on the Jubilee theme Pilgrims of Hope.
The icon will be visiting private locations such as schools and chaplaincies across the archdiocese, but there are many opportunities to see it at the below public events:
What is the Jubilee Icon?
Commissioned by CAFOD, the icon was created by Ethiopian artist Mulugeta Araya, reflecting Ethiopia’s rich tradition of iconography and emphasising the global nature of the Jubilee.
The icon depicts Luke 4:16–21, where Jesus proclaims: ‘He has sent me to bring good news to the poor… to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’
It highlights Jesus’ mission of mercy, justice, and liberation—core themes of the Jubilee.
You can explore the icon and its meaning further on CAFOD’s Jubilee page.
We look forward to welcoming you during the icon’s tour.
Please note, timings may be subject to change, please keep posted to the website for the latest information.
