July 28, 2026

A new week in Lourdes began with Mass in the Underground Basilica, celebrated by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon.

Pilgrims then gathered at the Grotto to pray the Rosary, led beautifully by some of our young people from Coach 1. Following the Rosary, everyone had the opportunity to pass through the Grotto and place their prayer intentions before Our Lady.

Throughout the day, candles were lit in remembrance of loved ones and our parishes back home.

For some of our youth coaches, Monday was a well-earned day of rest after several busy days of service. They made the most of the opportunity to recharge, with visits to places including St Bernadette’s childhood home and the lake.

It was also a particularly special day for Ivan from Coach 7, who was confirmed by Bishop Tom Neylon during their coach Mass. Congratulations, Ivan, on this important step in your faith journey.

As evening arrived, one of pilgrimage’s most cherished traditions took centre stage: fancy dress. This year, all of the youth coaches came together for a shared celebration, embracing a 1970s theme to mark the 50th anniversary of the pilgrimage. From flares and flower power to Scooby Doo and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, there were plenty of memorable looks on display.
