This year, we are celebrating 100 years since the first Liverpool to Lourdes pilgrimage.
Since that first pilgrimage, there has been one every year. The only exceptions to that have been during the Second World War, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
This time, we take a look back at the 1980s. This was a time when the first Space Shuttle was launched, the Berlin Wall fell and the Live Aid concert was performed at Wembley Stadium.
During the 1980s, Pope John Paul II visited Lourdes. He visited in 1983, it was the first time a reigning pontiff had visited Lourdes.
