In case you missed it, on Monday 25 May, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical called Magnifica Humanitas.

In this encyclical, His Holiness talks about preserving the human person in the age of artificial intelligence.

Since its release, the Holy See has provided some infographics to help us develop a greater understanding of the encyclical.

This includes the four pillars for building a better future. Relationship with God, accepting human limitations, shared responsibility and language that unites.

Pope Leo XIV also lays out the full development of the person – economic, social, spiritual and environmental. He adds development is genuine only if it concerns the whole person and all people.

He also provides the argument that AI should make life more human, rather than making it more efficient.

In chapter four, he argues that the dignity of the person must be the criteria of all progress, that if technology dominates, then the human becomes a means and if it is guided by wisdom, it becomes human development.

And finally, he invites us to become builders of communion, rather than the architects of Babel, so that humanity may not lose its magnificence.
