Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Centre in Toxteth, has recently acquired a defibrillator courtesy of the Oliver King Foundation.

This was thanks to a donation from Nicky Spragg, who is the sister of Archdiocesan Parish Centres Managing Company (APCMC) Area Manager, Kim Schofield.

Nicky walked the Camino in June, which took her around five days to complete, ending in the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in northwest Spain.

Completing the walk was something she had always dreamed of doing, but life got in the way. This year, she decided to go for it, and successfully completed it

Nicky said: “During the walk, you were never too far away from people, which was a big help, and the end goal was a big inspiration when I was flagging near the end.”

She raised money for the Oliver King Foundation and received enough donations to fund for a new defibrillator for the parish centre.

The defibrillator was delivered by Mark King OBE, founder of the foundation, and father of Oliver King, who lost his life after suffering a cardiac arrest during a swimming lesson, aged just 12.

Since the foundation was launched, they have provided over 7,000 defibrillators to venues across the country and delivered training to over 170,000 people.

A spokesperson for the Oliver King Foundation said: “We are now proud to have supported Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Centre in Toxteth with the donation of a life-saving defibrillator, thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of Nicola Spragg.

“We first came into contact with Nicola when she approached us earlier this year, determined to raise funds for our foundation by walking 75 miles across the Camino de Santiago, a challenge she completed in June.

“We thank Nicola for her support and congratulate Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Centre for joining a growing number of venues now equipped to save lives.”
