Parishioners from St Columba Church, Huyton and St John Fisher Church, Knowsley Village donated an impressive £1,000 to charity.

The funds, raised from the collections at Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses, were split equally between a local charity, Nugent, and overseas charity, CAFOD.

Nugent offers help for both children and vulnerable adults across the Liverpool City Region, from children’s homes and dementia friendly care, to offering Masses for the deaf community.

The money raised for CAFOD will go towards their winter warmer campaign, to help families in Lebanon who are facing dangerously low temperatures after fleeing the violence in the Middle East.

Parish priest, Fr Mike Fitzsimons, who is also a Trustee of Nugent, said: “I’m really proud of our parish community and the generosity they’ve shown. At a time when many face challenges, their kindness will bring hope and comfort to those who need it most—both here at home and in communities far beyond our own.”

Joanne Dobbie, Caritas and Community Engagement Manager at Nugent, added: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at the parishes of St Columba and St John Fisher for choosing to support Nugent at the Christmas collection. The generosity of parishioners helps Nugent to continue delivering vital services to children, families and adults who rely on us every day throughout the Liverpool City Region.

“This thoughtful donation reflects a shared commitment to supporting the most vulnerable in our communities, and we are truly honoured by the continued support from the parishes of St Columba and St John Fisher.”
