Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School in St Helens marked its Silver Jubilee with a special Mass of thanksgiving on Friday 26 June, celebrating 25 years since the amalgamation of St Vincent de Paul Primary School and Our Lady Mother of God Primary School.

Archbishop John Sherrington celebrated Mass at St Vincent’s Church, joined by Fr Jean Paul and Deacon David. The church was filled with current and former pupils and staff, parishioners, governors, representatives of the Archdiocese of Liverpool, St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust, which the school will join in December, and pupils from feeder school St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School.

The celebration showcased the talents of the school community, with pupils leading the music, readings and prayers. A particular highlight was the debut performance of a new school song, Holy Spirit Come Down on Me, composed during the year by music teacher Mr Delaney together with pupils from across the school.

During the offertory procession, children from Nursery to Year 6 brought forward gifts representing the school's journey over the past 25 years, including the original school bells from St Vincent’s and Our Lady Mother of God, a plaque bearing the names of past and present headteachers, examples of pupils’ work and flowers for Our Lady.

During Mass, Interim Executive Headteacher Sinéad Walsh said: "Today we have come together to honour the Holy Spirit who has guided our school over the past 25 years. We see the fruits of the Holy Spirit lived out every day in our school community through love, joy, peace, kindness, faithfulness and service to one another."

Following Mass, guests returned to the school for a celebratory tea party, and Archbishop John enjoyed a tour of the school, rounding off a wonderful day celebrating Holy Spirit’s past, present and future.
