St John Bosco Arts College, Croxteth, is celebrating with its Year 11 students who collected their GCSE results, marking the end of five years of academic progress and personal development.

There was a true sense of joy and accomplishment in the room as students opened their GCSE results envelope to discover the outcome of the dedication and commitment to their studies, surrounded by their family members and supported by school staff, who were on hand to offer advice and guidance.

This year’s GCSE results saw significant improvements across key measures, reflecting the hard work of students and the unwavering support they received from the school’s exceptional teaching and pastoral teams.

The number of students achieving grade 5 or above in English increased by more than 12-per-cent, with similar outcomes also seen in maths as students securing grade 5 or higher rose by over 11-per-cent. The school also recorded a seven-per-cent increase in students achieving a grade 5 or above in both English and Maths.

St John Bosco also offers its Key Stage 4 students the opportunity to study a wide variety of vocational qualifications, and outcomes in this area have also strengthened significantly with Distinction-level outcomes increasing by more than 25-per-cent in both Sport and Textiles, alongside notable improvements in Travel and Tourism, and Health and Social Care too.

As part of the careers curriculum at St John Bosco, all Year 11 students participated in individual careers interviews with the school’s careers advisers to begin planning for their next steps, with many choosing to continue their studies at the school’s thriving sixth form, where they will complete a range of A-level and BTEC qualifications.

Among these students is Baaba, who celebrated an exceptional set of GCSE results, achieving two grade 9s and six grade 8s, alongside a Distinction.

Baaba said: “I’m really happy with my results and proud that all the hard work has paid off. I’m excited about staying at St John Bosco for sixth form and looking forward to taking the next step towards my future.”

Also joining Baaba at St John Bosco Arts College Sixth Form are:

• Dorothy, who achieved four grade 8s, three grade 7s, one grade 6, and a Distinction in Business.

• Aimee, who achieved two grade 8s, two grade 7s and three grade 6s, as well as two Distinctions in Dance and Textiles.

• Heidi, who achieved three grade 8s, three grade 7s, two grade 6s, and a Merit in Business.

Other Year 11 students are progressing on to other opportunities, including Chelsea N’Drin, who achieved grade 4s in both English Language and Literature, and is now preparing to join Chelsea FC Women’s Under-18 academy after securing a contract earlier in the year.

Headteacher of St John Bosco Arts College, Mr Darren Gidman, said: “I am incredibly proud of every St John Bosco Arts College student who has received their GCSE results today. This day is about far more than grades alone, it is about recognising the hard work, resilience and personal growth each student has demonstrated through their individual journey at the school.

“As a Salesian community, we are guided by our core values of love, faith, community, respect and hope, which have supported our students to flourish throughout their time with us as they prepare to take their next steps. Whether students are returning to our sixth form in September or moving on to new destinations, I would like to wish them all the very best for the future and congratulate them once again on five fantastic years at St John Bosco Arts College!”
