Statement from Archbishop John Sherrington on the attacks on the Jewish community in Manchester
minute read
October 3, 2025

I was deeply saddened to hear the news about  the attack on the Jewish community in Manchester, on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

On behalf of the Archdiocese of Liverpool, I extend our thought sand prayers to all those affected by this horrific incident. We stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters during this time of grief and distress.

We also hold in prayer the emergency services who responded with courage and compassion.

Acts of violence and hatred have no place in our society. We continue to pray for peace, unity, and healing across our communities and throughout the world.
