Young adults pilgrimage to Assisi: All you need to know

The Archdiocese of Liverpool has an exciting opportunity foryoung adults to walk in the footsteps of St Francis and St Clare of Assisi,with a pilgrimage to their homeland.

We have partnered with McCabe Travel to offer thisexperience, which is open to those between the ages of 18 and 35.

There will also be the opportunity to pray with one of thechurch’s newest and youngest saints, St Carlo Acutis.

Known as the first Millennial Saint, Carlo Acutis is thepatron of young people. He was canonised alongside Pier Giorgio Frassati inSeptember.

The itinerary of the trip is as follows:

Day 1: Fly out to Rome from Manchester. Travel toaccommodation, then call at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli to visitthe Porziuncola, St Francis’ original chapel, which marks the site where hedied.

Day 2:  Visit to thechurch of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Sanctuary of the Renunciation, theresting place of St Carlo Acutis. Here, the group will meet a resident Friar,who will talk about Carlo, before celebrating Mass. After lunch, it is up tothe Basilica of St Francis, for a guided tour of the twin Basilica, where youcan see the frescoes attributed to Giotto and also where St Francis is buried.

Day 3: Early private Mass will be celebrated in the Basilicaof St Francis before visiting the Hermitage, a place of retreat and meditationfor St Francis. After that, it is over to San Damiano, where St Francis receivedthe message from the Crucifix to repair God’s church, and where St Clarefounded her community years later. The afternoon is free.

Day 4: There will be free time in Assisi before getting thecoach back to Rome to fly back to Manchester.

Price

For bookings received by 17 April, you are entitled to adiscount. For the first 15 people to book, it is £799 full price. If you arenot one of the first 15 to book, but still do it before 17 April, it is £849. If you book after 17 April, the full price is £990.

Advance bookings also have a lower deposit of £200 insteadof £500.

If you are travelling on your own, a limited number ofsingle rooms are available at a supplementary cost of £95, or £115 if you wouldlike a twin room for single occupancy.

It is advised to book early.

The price includes:

  • Three nights in the Old Town of Assisi at the Hotel Panoramic
  • Daily breakfast and 2 dinners
  • Transfer by air-conditioned coach
  • Local English-speaking guide throughout
  • All entrance fees for sites as listed in the programme
  • Gratuities - these will be disbursed locally
  • Guided tour of St Francis Basilica led by one of the resident friars
  • Meeting with one of the resident friars of the Sanctuary of the Renunciation (resting     place of St Carlo Acutis)
  • Outbound flight to Rome from Manchester
  • Inbound flight from Rome to Manchester
  • Airport and security taxes
