Appealing for a Catholic school – Q&A

As parents across the archdiocese find out which school has been allocated to their child, our Education Department has been receiving appeals from those who didn’t get their first choice school.

If you are looking to appeal, please read the helpful Q&A guide below before starting your application to help you throughout the process.

Q: When will my appeal be?

A: You will begiven a date within 40 school dates of lodging your appeal for children going into Year 7. Appeals will be heard on 19 June or as soon thereafter.

Q: How will I hear about my appeal date?

A: You will receive a letter by post two weeks prior to the appeal date

Q: Have you received my appeal form?

A: If you have received a confirmation email about your submission then that is confirmation that we have received your form.

Q: What should I submit for my supporting documents?

A: Supporting documents may include any correspondence with the school, letters of support from any source and any medical evidence. Please send these documents as a scan/PDF (we will not be able to accept photographs/screenshots) to aes@rcaol.org.uk with the name of your child, your child’s DOB, the name of the school you are appealing for and the local authority that you live in.

Q: Where will my appeal be held?

A: It will beheld online using Microsoft Teams

Q: I’ve submitted my form but forgot to include some information, what should I do?

A: Please don’t submit an additional form, please just email aes@rcaol.org.uk with any additional information. Please include in your email the name of your child, your child’s DOB, the name of the school you are appealing for and the local authority that you live in.

Q: I’ve changed my address/personal details, what should I do?

A: Please email aes@rcaol.org.uk confirming your past details and the new details.

Q: I no longer want to appeal/ I have now been offered a place at the school- what should I do?

A: Please email us on aes@rcaol.org.uk and include in your email the name of your child, your child’s DOB, the name of the school you are appealing for and the local authority that you live in.

Q: When will I hear the outcome of the appeal?

A: Once all appeals have been heard and the panel have completed the deliberation of the appeals, you will be informed of their decision.
