This year, we celebrate 100 years sine the first Liverpool to Lourdes pilgrimage.
Since that pilgrimage, it has travelled to Lourdes every year, with the only exception being during the Second World War and the Covid-19 pandemic.
As part of the build-up to the centenary, we take a look down memory lane, and unlock some memories. This time, it will be from the 1940s and 50s. The pilgrimage had a bit of a hiatus as a result of the war, meaning pilgrimages did not resume until after the war finished in 1945.
By which time, the world was still picking up the pieces from the impact of the war. But there was some good things as well, as such as the inventions of the microwave oven, Velcro and Tupperware. Frank Sinatra was also starting to make his career in music and Casablanca won best picture at the Oscars.
