On Sunday 16 November, parishes across the Archdiocese of Liverpool will join churches throughout the UK in marking Safeguarding Sunday — a national day of prayer and action led by the Christian safeguarding charity Thirtyone:eight.
Now in its seventh year, the campaign invites churches to reflect on the vital role safeguarding plays in the life of our communities, and to make clear, practical commitments that help ensure every church is a safe place for all.
The theme for 2025, “Action Speaks Louder”, challenges each of us to move beyond words and take positive steps to protect children, young people and adults at risk.
Parishes will be sharing Safeguarding Pledge Cards, encouraging every member of the community to make a commitment - one small action that helps build a safer parish. Whether that’s learning more about safeguarding, volunteering, offering support to families, or being alert to concerns in our community, every action makes a difference.
A message from Bishop Tom Neylon, chair of safeguarding committee
“Safeguarding Sunday reminds us that every person in our community deserves to feel safe, valued and protected. It is not just about policies or procedures, but about living out our faith through real care for one another. When we each take responsibility — however small that action may seem — we help build a Church where trust can grow and where everyone knows they belong.” – Bishop Tom Neylon
Bishop Tom has recorded a short video with prayers for victims and for all who work in safeguarding. Parishes are encouraged to share this video during Mass or online.
