Year 11 students at St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School are celebrating after collecting their GCSE and BTEC results, marking the end of five successful years at the Sutton-based school.
Surrounded by their families and St Cuthbert’s staff, students opened their results envelopes to discover the outcome of months of hard work, determination and resilience which they demonstrated throughout the exam period.
This year’s results saw the number of students achieving grades 9-4 in English and Mathematics increase, and outcomes for students with special educational needs (SEND) have improved across every measure, demonstrating the impact of the support and opportunities St Cuthbert’s provides for all its young people.
Improvements have also been made in a range of subjects, with the proportion of students securing grades 9-4 in Science increasing, and strong performances also achieved in Drama and PE.
The school has also recorded some of its strongest BTEC results – students studying Health and Social Care have performed particularly well, preparing them for successful futures, especially in light of the opportunities within the local employment market.
Today’s results not only reflect the academic achievements of students, but also the personal growth and development they have shown during their time at St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, supported by high-quality, research-led teaching and exceptional pastoral care.
Equipped with strong qualifications, as well as the life skills and personal attributes fostered through St Cuthbert’s mission to develop the whole child, this year’s cohort is now set to embark on their exciting next steps into further education, apprenticeships and full-time employment.
This includes Dylan J, who will be progressing to Winstanley College after achieving eight results between grades 9-7.
Dylan said: “I am over the moon with my results, I have achieved beyond my expectations!”
Mr Stuart Holland, headteacher at St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, said: “I am incredibly proud of every one of our students who has worked extremely hard during their time at St Cuthbert’s to achieve the results they have received today. Throughout their journey with us, and particularly over the course of their Key Stage 4 studies, students have shown a genuine commitment to ‘know more and be more’, a value that lies at the heart of our school community.
“These results are testament to the resilience and determination of our students, alongside the commitment of our dedicated staff and the unwavering support of our parents and carers.”
“As our students begin their next chapters, we encourage them to continue to ‘live life in all its fullness’, remembering that they are valued, that they matter, and that they will always be a special part of the St Cuthbert’s family. We look forward to hearing all about their future successes and seeing them continue to thrive in the next stage of their education, employment and training – congratulations, once again, class of 2026!”
With Year 11 students preparing to embark on the next stage of their education and careers, St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School is also looking ahead to an exciting new chapter of its own. From September, the school will join St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust (SJCMAT) as part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s major academisation strategy, ‘A Family in Christ: Our Future Together’, becoming the fifth secondary school in the trust family.
Director of secondary education at St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust, Mr Michael Gun-Why, added: “Congratulations to the students of St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School who have achieved fantastic GCSE and BTEC results today. Not only do the grades reflect students’ individual hard work, but they also highlight the dedication of the school’s staff who have been committed to delivering quality first teaching. As St Cuthbert’s prepares to join St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust in September, we look forward to welcoming the school into our trust family and working closely with its community to build on this year’s success as we continue to transform children’s lives through a world-class education.”
St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School will be holding its annual open evening on Thursday, 24 September between 4:00pm and 7:00pm for prospective learners and their families to discover how the school supports all its students to ‘live life in all its fullness’.
