Students and staff at St. Mary’s College in Crosby are celebrating another resounding summer of success in GCSE examinations.
Once again the school has recorded an excellent set of results, with almost half of all passes (43-per-cent) at the highest 9-7 grades (up from 39-per-cent in 2025), and more than a quarter of candidates (29-per-cent) achieving seven or more passes at these top levels (up from 26-per-cent last year).
More than half of students (57-per-cent) obtained ten or more passes, with many achieving 11 or even 12 GCSEs, and 16-per-cent of candidates recorded ten or more 9-7 grade passes each.
Joint top of the class at the school this summer are 16-year-old Sophie Quint from Crosby and Joseph Olayinka-Lawal, also aged 16 from Huyton, who both recorded seven 9 grades and four 8 grades in their 11 GCSE passes.
Sophie commented: “I was quite nervous picking up my results but I am relieved now and pleased with how I did. I would like to thank my sister Anna who got her A Level results last week for always supporting me while we were both studying.
“I am looking forward to joining the Sixth Form at St. Mary’s and am going to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Music at A Level.”
Joseph said: “I am extremely happy with my results. All of the hard work has paid off. I want to thank my subject teachers, my parents, aunt, uncle and grandad for all their support.
“I am staying at St. Mary’s for Sixth Form and will be doing Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A Level.”
Along with Andres Funes-Cervera, Hazel Liu and Samuel Miller Sophie and Joseph form the St. Mary’s ‘famous five’, all of them achieving 11 or more GCSEs at the highest 9-7 grades.
Among other praiseworthy individual performances Solomiia Protsenko achieved a grade 9 in her Russian GCSE which she took two years early in Year 9, aged just 13 years old.
Similarly Jan Wolski, aged 15 from Mossley Hill, achieved a grade 9 in his GCSE Polish after taking the exam 12 months early in Year 10.
Commenting on the results St. Mary’s College Principal Mike Kennedy said: “These summer’s results are extremely pleasing and we are obviously very proud of the achievements of our GCSE students in these important examinations.
“Their successes are a testament both to all their hard work over the past five years, and the fantastic support they have received from staff and their parents over this period.
“Students can now use these excellent results as a firm foundation on which to build future success at A Level, at university and in their future careers.”
