St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, Upholland, has become the first school in the Archdiocese of Liverpool to achieve the Participator Level of the Oscar Romero Award, marking an important milestone in the school’s commitment to Catholic Social Teaching.

The award recognises schools that actively place Gospel values into action and work to embed social justice, solidarity and care for others throughout school life. St Teresa’s achievement follows on from its work towards the Live Simply Award, as the school continues to deepen its approach to Catholic Social Teaching across the curriculum.

Deputy Headteacher Catherine Phillips explained the motivation behind taking part in the award, saying:

“We were looking for something to follow on from achieving the Live Simply Award and a way to help us focus on embedding Catholic Social Teaching throughout our curriculum. We felt that working towards the Oscar Romero Award would help us to do this.”

The school has already begun working towards the Developer Level of the award, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to faith in action and global responsibility.

The Oscar Romero Award supports Catholic schools in living out their mission as places of evangelisation, empowering pupils and staff to become agents of positive change by putting faith into practice. St Teresa’s success sets an encouraging example for other schools across the archdiocese.
