December 4, 2025

Our congratulations go to Charlie Williams, eight, a student at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School, who recently won a poetry competition run by the Liverpool Football Club Foundation.

His poem, Greatness comes from everywhere, was picked out as the winner as part of the foundation’s Show Racism the Red Card campaign, a Premier League initiative. Charlie was picked as the winner for Liverpool FC.

The foundation had invited schools who are part of their Premier League Primary Stars programme to take part in this.

As the winner for Liverpool FC, he has also been entered into a competition with the winners from the other Premier League clubs and a national winner will be chosen by a panel. The winner will receive exclusive prizes, including a visit from the Premier League trophy to their school.

He was presented with a special certificate by Liverpool player Curtis Jones at the club’s AXA Training Ground and took the opportunity to have things signed by several of the club’s star players, as well as manager Arne Slot.

His poem also featured in the club’s matchday programme ahead of their Premier League fixture against Manchester United.

Following his win, Charlie spent time with the Labour MP for Liverpool Riverside, Kim Johnson when she visited the school, to discuss his poem.

Well done Charlie from everybody at the archdiocese!

You can read his poem below

Greatness comes from everywhere

Some of us are quiet

Some of us are loud

Some of us are tall and brave

Some of us don’t like crowds

Our hair, our skin, our languages

They make us who we are

Like pieces in a puzzle

Together we will go far

It’s kindness that unites us

A smile that makes us strong

No matter where we come from
